Puppy Health.
Health
All of our puppies receive a Vet Check prior to being available to adopt. Puppies are wormed from 2 weeks of age and should continue this regime until they are 12 weeks old. They will be flea treated at 8 weeks old. We recommend Flea and Worm treatments continue once puppy has gone to their new home. Our puppies are introduced to the water at an early age and enjoy bath time. We recommend that you groom your puppy at least once a week to avoid matting and remove any loose hair. Our Adult dogs are vet checked and vaccinated on an annual basis. They enjoy bath time as much as our puppies and are handled and groomed on a regular basis.
DNA testing
Both parents receive their genetic testing and results are available upon request. Genetic testing is completed with Orivet's full breed profiles and are breed specific genetic screens for diseases and traits that are relevant to each breed.
It is important to understand how genetics work. It is quite common for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in particular to carry the common Degenerative Myelopathy and the Poodle to be prone to Progressive Rod Cone Degeneration (PRCD) – PRA. For puppy to become at risk of developing the gene mum or dad carries, it would require both parents to be carriers of that specific gene. Hence why we take such care in ensuring that mums and dads are matched accordingly to minimise risk.
Something to also to be aware of is that our beautiful dogs are just like us humans in a way that we can still develop health concerns regardless of our parents genes. You could still have a completely clear mum and dad and this still will not be able to give you a 100% guarantee of no genetic issues developing in the future. Our generic test results are available to view at our kennels on request should that specific parent be genetically tested.
Vet check - What does it cover?
Our mums and dads are vet checked once a year and prior to having a new litter to ensure they are in good health before they have their next litter.
